TRANSLATING AVERY'S PHRASES:
"Where art choo?"- said repeatedly throughout the day within 30 seconds of my leaving the room that she's in, meaning "Where are you?"
"Daddy magicpeered"- said when she couldn't find Keith after he stepped outside to water the lawn, meaning "Daddy magically disappeared"
"Now that's taste"- said anytime she takes a bite of something she enjoys, meaning "Now that's tasty"
"Look what me found"- said repeatedly throughout the day whenever she discovers something new or not seen within a few weeks
- Listening Lesson 1- A primary focus lately has been learning aout how to listen and obey. I let Avery help me measure the spices one day, and after measuring them, Avery asked if I would leave them out for her to "play" with. I told her I would let her line them up and stack them, but made a point to say, "Avery, listen to me, if I see you taking them away from the counter or opening the lids, I will take them away." She obeyed, and I never got around to putting them away when she was done "playing" with them. Later that day, as I was getting ready for us to go out, I found her in the living room with the spices poured out and mixed together all over the coffee table. I asked, "Avery, WHAT are you doing?" Her response was very of matter-of-factly, "I'm not lisning to you." 05-09
-Listening Lesson 2- After going to the library and then a nearby playground, I told Avery it would soon be time for us to go homw. She immediately starting throwing a tantrum. I said, "Avery, you're not listening to me- we're not leaving yer, but we will need to leave soon." Her response was, "NO, Mommy, you not lisning to ME. I want to stay." 05-09
-Learning About Daddy's ob Antic 1- Keith's clinic had recently decided they could wear scrubs instead of business casual, which is what he's always had o wear, even in Houston. The first day he came home in his scrubs, Avery looked at him and said, "Are you Doctor Daddy?" 04-09
-Learning About Daddy's Job Antic 2- A few days after discovering Keith was a "doctor," I had a 6 mo. appt. scheduled for Addie. On the way to the doctor, Avery asked, "Are we going to find Doctor Daddy?" 04-09
-Quiet Time Antic 1- Avery finally is starting to understand the importance of being quiet and whispering while I'm putting Addie down for her nap. I was rocking Addie in her room and she was just about asleep for her nap, when I heard Bail running down the hallway because ofthe quiet jingle of the bell on his colar. Addie didn't notice it all, but Avery, who had been so careful to whisper and keep quiet in the other room, suddenly yelled at the top of her lungs," QUIET BASIL. ADDIE IS SLEEPING. BEEEEE QUIET!!" Addie, of course, immediately woke up. 05-09
-Quiet Time Antic 2- As I was heading to Addie's room to put her down for her nap, I peeped in on Avery in her bedroom for quiet time. She was standing in the bottom drawer of her dresser, so I told her as I was walking by that she needed to get out because she sould get hurt. Her response was,"No, Mom, it's MY birthday party, and I"M THE PRINCESS!" 05-09
-While in the car, Avery dropped her water cup and was asking me to get it for her. I explained, "No, Avery, I can't reach it while I'm driving." Instead of saying "Yes, Mom, you can," she yelled,"No, Mom, you NOT can't." 04-09
-After watching me serve my creamy asparagus risotto on to my plate, she shouted at me, "I DON'T LIKE IT, Sam-I-Am-Mom!"
-After Addie smiled at her, she pointed out, "Oh look Mom, it's happy!""
-When a mosquito-eater landed on her blanket, she yelled at it,"Bad bug- don't take my blankie in the sky."
-As I got up to get her breakfast ready one morning when she woke up an hour earlier than normal, she told me, "Great job waking up Mom!"
-Avery expresses her desire to do anything by declaring what time it is. Some of the funniest are "It's dancing time. It's Mickey Mouse time. It's good morning time. It's chocolate milk time. It's something-to-eat time."
-Avery is very disturbed at Super Grover's attempts to fly on Sesame Street and yells at him "No Grover- you're not a bird."
-When Keith or I leave to go somewhere, she tells us, "Don't come back." It sounds harsh, but we realized that when we're leaving and tell her we'll come back, she interprets it as us saying that we're leaving, so "Don't come back" really means "Don't leave."
-When my mom asked Avery about Addie's "Teddy Bear Blankie" which is really a frog blankie, Avery corrected her,"Not a teddy bear, Nana, it's a teddy froggie."
